Salary: £27,218 to £30,980 p.a

1 x 37 hours per week permanent

1 x 37 hours per week and fixed term contract for 2 years

We are looking to recruit two Environmental Health Graduates to work within our busy Public Protection Service. Successful candidates will be based in the Healthy Neighbourhoods team, and carry a full and varied caseload across the Housing and Environmental Protection specialisms. You will also be afforded exposure to other specialisms where necessary for your professional development.

You will be supervised and mentored by experienced and high performing Environmental Health Officers and you will fully contribute to the team’s success while benefitting from their experience and expertise.

Public Protection is part of a regulatory focused directorate including Planning, Licensing and Building Control on the same floor.  You will work across departmental boundaries; using your skills, knowledge and experience to promote compliance across the whole Public Protection arena.  You will use the full range of available enforcement tools.

You will have a degree, or equivalent, in Environmental Health, and applications from experienced technical officers will also be considered.  We are particularly interested in those with Local Authority experience in dealing with Housing and Environmental Protection issues.

It is important that you possess excellent people skills; with a proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence.

You will, at times, work out of normal office hours, and participate in the out of hours nuisance call out rota.

An ability to travel throughout the Borough, plus an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

These roles are  1 x 37 hours per week permanent and 1 x 37 hours per week and fixed term contract for 2 years.

When applying please state which role you are applying for.

If you are experiencing technical issues submitting your application please email resourcing@swindon.gov.uk
