Moray Council is a unitary authority located in the north east of Scotland between the Cairngorms and the Moray firth coast.  Information on the council and area can be found at  http://www.moray.gov.uk/moray_standard/page_41570.html where you can download Working for Moray along with a link to the My Job Scotland portal.   The post holder will assist the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Manager as required and as delegated in providing the Environmental Health service within Moray. This will include meeting agreed objectives and providing professional advice, making decisions on Environmental Health related matters. The post holder will also have responsibility for some management tasks as delegated, including supervision of  Animal Health and Private Water Supply staff.

The post holder will assist the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Manager as required and as delegated in providing the Environmental Health service within Moray. This will include meeting agreed objectives and providing professional advice, making decisions on Environmental Health related matters. The post holder will also have responsibility for some management tasks as delegated, including supervision of  Animal Health and Private Water Supply staff.

Make decisions on Environmental Health related matters, including enforcement, consultation responses, compliance, audit and performance.

To act in the capacity as consultee on behalf of Environmental Health to Moray Licensing Team, Planning, Building Standards and other consultation bodies

Undertake a proportion of management duties as delegated in order to assist the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Manager including deputising for the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Manager as required.

To oversee and supervise the staff in the Animal Services and Private Water Supply teams.

To enforce and advise on provisions of all relevant Legislation enforced by the Environmental Health Section.

Liaison with other Departments and Agencies on all aspects of Environmental Health.

Contributing to the effectiveness of the Service.

The Individual

Relevant experience in food safety, health and safety at work, environmental protection, public health, housing, animal health private water and other general duties relating to environmental health
Considerable post graduate experience demonstrating knowledge and ability in specialist area
BSc(Hons) in Environmental Health or equivalent* 
The Diploma in Environmental Health of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland or equivalent
Effective written and verbal communication skills 
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and PowerPoint 
Effective organisational and time management skills 
Willingness to accept direction/delegation
Analytical abilities
IT Skills
Negotiating Skills
Sound knowledge of range of Environmental Health duties
Ability to work on own initiative and record information accurately
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van
