Chelmsford City Council is in a position to appoint Environmental Health Officers to its busy Business Compliance, Housing Standards and Community Protection teams within Public Health and Protection Services. These are great opportunities to develop and expand skills across the area of (i) food safety and health and safety regulation, (ii) private sector housing and (iii) environmental protection and all officers are expected to support the wider activities of the Service as necessary.

We are looking for enthusiastic, suitably qualified and skilled Environmental Health Officers to join our dedicated teams to help maintain and improve the health and environment for those who live in, work in or visit our District.

Successful candidates will have the skills to successfully communicate requirements and influence standards and behaviour. They will be able to demonstrate a commitment to team working as well as having the ability to work efficiently and effectively on their own. High standards of customer service and the discipline to deliver this across a large and varied workload are also essential.

We welcome applications from recent graduates including those still working towards their EHRB registration or equivalent. Any such successful candidate will be appointed on the lower grade (grade 7) and will be supported throughout the process including appropriate work experience and training. Such applicants will be subject to achieving competency within an agreed reasonable set period of time from appointment. Applicants interested in working in the Business Compliance Team should be competent or working towards competency in line with Chapter 4 of the Food Law Code of Practice.
