Specialist Advisor (Food Safety)

Permanent

Based in Eastbourne and Lewes

37 hours per week

Band D/E £23,361 - £31,371 per annum

We are seeking an individual with drive and enthusiasm to join our Environmental Health Team who deliver our Food and Health and Service across Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council areas.

As a Specialist Advisor you will:

  • Provide customer focused and specialist advice on a range of statutory and  non-statutory services.
  • Input and deliver appropriate areas of Corporate Strategy and associated policies and plans.
  • Provide technical input to corporate projects and strategic programmes.

This is a customer focused team, primarily working with local food businesses to ensure consumer protection and public health are maintained.  Main responsibilities include inspecting high risk food premises, undertaking RIDDOR investigations, enforcing food safety and health and safety legislation, investigating food bourne illness and contributing to aspects of policy and procedural development.

Professionalism, together with the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals, are essential.

You must possess a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, be EHORB registered and in a position to be authorised, in accordance with Food Law Code of Practice requirements, with minimal delay.  A thorough understanding of the relevant food safety legislation is essential, as is current practical experience in the application of the Food Law Code of Practice, including the inspection of food businesses and the implementation of relevant enforcement policy and guidelines.  You will need to demonstrate a willingness and capacity to tackle serious or persistent non-compliance, using the full spectrum of graduated enforcement and be able to investigate infectious disease notifications and implement measures to prevent spread of infection.
