Buckingham Futures have taken on an exciting position of Pollution Officer in North London.

Main Responsibilities

1.To carry out appropriate surveys and sampling of environmental media including air, soil, and submit them for analysis ensuring integrity of samples and, where necessary, continuity for evidential purposes.

2.To assist in the delivery of environmental pollution control related operations and/or projects to meet service objectives.

3.To scrutinise and critically examine planning applications or pre-applications, Environmental Impacts Assessments and Environmental Statements and make comments and recommendations in terms of legal and technical issues relating to environmental pollution

4.In co-operation with officers from the Planning service, negotiate terms and conditions in respect of the enforceable and desirable requirements for developments with interested parties.

5.To investigate, survey, inspect, report on and resolve cases involving environmental pollution nuisance or environmental pollution issues.  Show a detailed understanding of regulation options, including legal enforcement action and other environmental related activities and services.

6.Gather evidence under statutory guidelines such as the Police & Criminal Evidence Act and prepare legal cases for the purposes of civil and criminal proceedings in courts, inquires and tribunals including prosecutions.

7.To process technical and other data held electronically and assist with the development of the business process.

8.To ensure that adequate records and databases are maintained including statutory registers to enable the efficient operation and assist with the timely production of information for case review, appraisals and performance indicators.

9.To ensure effective consultation on all aspects of the function with residents, community groups and business interests.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

1.An appropriate professional or technical qualification at degree level and extensive demonstrable CPD

2.Relevant experience proving competence

3.Relevant knowledge of pollution control and climate change issues and the ability to apply that knowledge to the provision of a high-quality service,

4.Good team working skills and the ability to work with professional and independently minded people

5.High level of literacy and numerical ability and the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in written form, with a wide range of audiences

6.Ability to organise own workload; to manage work programmes and projects; to work under pressure, maintaining high quality and output; achieve set deadlines and targets, and make effective and appropriate decisions under pressure.

7.A sound understanding of project management and skill in the effective management of projects to successful completion on time and within budget.

8.Strong analytical skills.
