The council is set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse and with the Royal Family on the doorstep, this is a good place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London and the West of England, with the new Elizabeth Line opening in Maidenhead in 2019.

The role is full time, however consideration will be given to candidates requesting part time hours.

This is a newly created role and an exciting opportunity to come and work for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead in a challenging and busy Residential Services team.

On a journey to transform the Residential Services team, we have an opportunity to recruit talented and ambitious people to create a high performing team ensuring that resident’s health, safety and welfare is safeguarded and protected.

We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced disabled facility grant (DFG) specialist, who will ensure the effective delivery of home adaptations to residents in their homes. You will possess sound technical knowledge and a knowledge of relevant legislation including (but not limited to) the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.

You will act as first point of contact for the receipt of referrals and requests for grants and loans. You will also be advising and determining eligibility chairing the DFG panel and progressing applications for mandatory and discretionary grant assistance with reference to appropriate legislative and policy provisions.

You will also train and support Environmental Health Technical Officers and Environmental Health Officers in the process of DFGs to ensure that the Council’s statutory duties and are met.

Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of organisation skills will be required to manage a diverse workload. Confidence to take decisions within agreed parameters will be essential.

The role will also include undertaking the full range of enquiries, providing advice and assistance to customers including the investigation and enforcement of all relevant housing and environmental health legislation. Experience is desirable but not essential, as training and support will be provided to enable the suitable candidate to fulfil these duties.

If you are able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, be able to organise and prioritise your own workload and have good IT skills and are keen to make a difference to our residents and your team, we would like to hear from you.
