We have a number of exciting opportunities to join our Environmental Protection Team to support the Council’s aim to improve neighbourhoods and the Borough’s housing stock including the private rented sector, homes in multiple occupancy and empty homes.

Environmental Protection Manager

£38,813 - £41,675

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Senior Regeneration and Housing Management Team and will lead and manage the Council’s Environmental Protection Service.  You will be responsible for a medium sized team providing a range of services including private sector housing, standards and regulation in the private rented sector, houses in multiple occupation, empty homes, pollution control and environmental standards including blight.

You will be responsible for development, management, delivery and monitoring of the Environmental Protection Service ensuring the Service is customer focused and high performing.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in delivering environmental related services in particular private sector housing and standards in the private rented sector.  In addition, you will need to be qualified in Environmental Health with good knowledge of environmental health and private sector housing legislation along with good communication and budget management skills.

Environmental Health Officer (Housing and Public Health)

£30,507 - £32,878

The Post Holder will contribute to improving the quality of private sector housing stock within the Borough, investigating reports of sub-standard housing conditions and poor management practice.

You will be involved with the investigation and enforcement of private sector housing complaints under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, reports of illegal eviction, and Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO’s) including licensing.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, be competent to deal with complex case work and have very good verbal and communication skills.  You will need to be organised and motivated and be able to work on your own initiative.

The successful candidate will be suitably qualified and experienced, including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

Environmental Health Officer (Selective Licensing)

£30,507 - £32,878

The Post Holder will contribute to improving the quality of the private rented sector by having a key role in delivering the Council’s Selective Licensing Scheme.

You will be involved with the investigation of landlords not applying for a licence, breaches in licence conditions and enforcement using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System where appropriate.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, have very good investigation and negotiation skills with excellent verbal and communication skills.  You will need to be organised and motivated and be able to work on your own initiative.

The successful candidate will be suitably qualified and experienced ideally with training and experience of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

Empty Property Officer

£29,636 - £31,371

37 hours per week

Essential Car User Allowance

The Post Holder will lead on dealing with empty properties and bringing them back into use.

You will investigate complaints and referrals about empty properties and maintain our database of long term empty properties.  You will encourage owners to bring empty properties back into use providing advice and assistance.  You will also be responsible for initiating and leading on enforcement interventions, including remedial action.

This is seen as essential, high profile work within the Borough, and therefore we are seeking a highly motivated, skilled professional with the drive and determination to succeed.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of empty property issues, and of the legislation and enforcement tools available to help bring empty properties back into use.  Ideally, you will also have a good knowledge of building construction and practice.
