SPECIALIST OFFICER – PRIVATE SECTOR HOUSING
Salary £27,905- £30,507 Temporary Contract for 12 months
Do you want to work at the forefront of a public health and regulatory service? Our vision and core role is to protect and improve the health, safety and well-being of people living, working and visiting Mid Devon.
We are looking for a team player to help us shape and deliver an efficient and effective private-sector housing service as part of our newly created Community team. You will work in a busy, front-line team within Public Health and Regulatory Services. This is a hugely varied role responsible for the delivery of core private sector housing and corporate risk work. The scope of the team is such that it encompasses our community-led regulatory functions across private sector housing, environmental health and community safety so there will be opportunities to develop further.
You will work closely with the new team leader for our front-line Community teams, to undertake planned and reactive work including housing standards inspections, empty homes, licensed houses in multiple occupation and communal fire-risk assessments, with a particular focus on disabled facilities and housing assistance grants and energy efficiency work.
An ability to prioritise effectively and be able to work with efficiency and attention to detail is essential. You will need to hold relevant qualifications, and ideally have recent experience in a similar role along with proven private sector housing knowledge and skills, preferably in a statutory or regulatory environment. You should be committed to delivering excellent services and maintaining effective relationships with other officers, members and other key stakeholders/partners drawing upon good communication, negotiation and mediation skills.
You will also need the confidence to deal with challenging or difficult situations and to work effectively with other authorities and agencies. Computer literacy is essential and a working knowledge of IDOX Uniform would be desirable (though training can be provided).
A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential as travel is required throughout our area.
Some activities can take place on an evening and weekend and therefore there will be occasional work outside of normal office hours.
A satisfactory basic disclosure check and three years complete employment history will be requested in the event of you being offered the position.
For this post we offer a generous package including a competitive salary and:
- FLEXIBLE WORKING HOURS AND FAMILY FRIENDLY POLICIES
- LOCAL GOVERNMENT PENSION SCHEME
- PLEASANT WORKING ENVIRONMENT
For an informal discussion about the post, contact Tanya Wenham, Team Leader - Community Team on 01884 244610 or Simon Newcombe, Group Manager – Public Health and Regulatory Services on 01884 244615.
