Buckingham Futures have an excellent opportunity in the East Midlands for an Environmental Health Officer / Higher Certificate Technical Officer to undertake food safety inspections of approximately 100 C and D rated premises which are currently 4 and 5 in terms of FHRS. The inspections are to be conducted in line with food law code of practice and scored in line with the code and Brand Standard to enable updating of the FHRS.


The inspector appointed for the contract will have to undertake a supervised/shadowed inspection with the Senior Environmental Health Officer (SEHO) or Environmental Health Manager (EHM) to meet the requirements of our client's food safety inspections procedure.


The appointed inspector will be provided with the last inspection letter, completed official control record and a copy of the food premises registration form. These documents must be returned to the client for secure disposal to meet our clients GDPR policy prior to payment being approved.



The inspector will also be required to ensure:


  1. Completion of theinspection official control record form. Completion of Report of visit sheet and a copy left on site) with sufficient information to justify the rating given. All parts of the form must be completed as appropriate. Completion of the FHR Score sheet (Copy left on site). This form is intended to highlight to the FBO how the legal compliance items raised in the report of visit have affected their food hygiene rating in the individual areas of structure, food hygiene and safety and confidence in management. Completion of an FHRS rating sticker for 5, 4 and 3 rated premises. Where the premises inspected becomes not broadly complaint (e.g., 0, 1 or 2 rated) to produce a letter usinga standard template and standards paragraphs were applicable. Return of the documents highlighted in points 1- 3 and 5 above and to notify the SEHO of the full risk rating of the business within 1 weeks of the inspection. Where the FBO at the premises differs to the name listed on the food premises registration form provided to the inspector a new form should whenever possible be completed and signed by the FBO at the time. This completed form must then be and returned to the FHS team (when they return the other inspection paperwork). To refer any significant contraventions to SEHO or EHM as quickly as possible and any potential HEPN situations immediately. To ensure that inspections as far as possible are completed in order of their next due inspection date and no later than 28 days from this. With the exception of Domestic premises to ensure that the inspections are conducted on an unannounced basis.

It is intended that the premises will be allocated in 3 batches and must when practicable, be completed within 6 weeks of issue and the full allocation completed by mid December 2019.


Inspecting officer must hold one of the baseline qualifications, and have associated registration. The base line qualifications are Higher Certificate in Food Control or certificate of registration or Diploma issued by the Environmental Health Registration Board.


The Inspecting Officer must be able to demonstrate how they are capable of meeting the competencies relating to Inspection of Food Establishments (Cluster 4.) and hold 10 CPD hours on core food matters directly related to the delivery of official controls and 10 hours on other professional matters. This could include training needs identified by the Lead Food Officer during competency assessments/appraisals as specified in the current version of the Food Law Code of Practice and Practice Guidance.


A copy of relevant qualifications, CPD certificates and certificates of registration with EHORB/EHRB must be held on file by Buckingham Futures before the contract commences.
