Overview of the job.
As part of the Public Protection service area, you will provide a range of regulatory and enabling functions that affect the daily lives of people living, working and relaxing in Ipswich. The service is aimed at protecting and improving public health, the local environment and quality of life. The service brings together teams who play a highly visible role across the council.
Environmental Health Officers undertake a full range of enforcement duties by undertaking inspections and investigations as a result of enquiries, service requests, complaints or as a matter of routine; determining and taking necessary action to ensure compliance with appropriate legislation through advice, education and, where necessary, service of statutory notices and legal proceedings.
You will have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, be registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board and be a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). You will have had recent experience of working in local government or a similar organisation and have the ability to provide detailed technical advice to customers and other service areas.
