Pollution Control Officer

Band 7 - £33,478 per annum

Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

We are looking for an experienced environmental professional to work in the Service Delivery Directorate who is able to provide a high standard of professional specialist advice and support to ensure compliance with legislation, professional codes of practice and adherence to policy.

The successful candidate will work closely with Planning Officers and will have significant experience/knowledge of: contaminated land, air pollution and noise control; relevant legislation; practices/methodologies; experience in the use of monitoring equipment; providing consultee advice on planning applications; and the ability to act as an expert witness in legal proceedings. In addition, the role may on occasion involve investigating statutory nuisance and general environmental health work, such as public health. 

Applicants will be educated to Diploma or Degree level in a scientific discipline and hold relevant graduate qualifications in an Environmental Science discipline or have extensive, relevant experience. Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards membership is desirable.

You must possess excellent communication skills, be able to collect, analyse and interpret complex data, and have experience of dealing with developers, other environmental health professionals, Councillors and members of the public in person and on the telephone. You will also be required to demonstrate an ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm, even when the pressure of workload is high. You will have good IT skills and the ability to use relevant specialist software including the use of GIS.
