Basildon Borough Council is a dynamic and diverse place to work with ambitious plans for our residents. There has been significant growth in the Borough’s private rented sector in recent years, now in the region of 13% of the total housing stock. It is estimated that around 14% of these properties have category 1 hazards. The Council recognises the importance that this sector plays in terms of providing homes for our local residents, and is committed to improving housing standards through its Private Sector Housing Strategy. The post is within the Private Sector Housing Team of Environmental Health.
This post has been created to help support the current workload in relation to the licensing of HMO’s in particular. This opportunity has been created for an experienced and hardworking individual to contribute to the work of a team responding to local issues within our local private sector housing stock. Your duties will include HMO inspections and licensing; investigation and response to complaints in relation to housing conditions, provision of advice and ensuring compliance with appropriate housing standards.
You will be a fully qualified EHP (registered with EHRB) with demonstrable previous experience of working in a local government housing enforcement environment, including a working knowledge of the practical application of relevant legislation and the HHSRS. Your skills will include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with landlords, agents and tenants as well as a range of related agencies to achieve the best outcomes for our residents.
In return we can offer you a generous reward package including flexible working.
If you feel you have the necessary qualities it takes then we would like to hear from you.
