Health and Safety Manager

Based in Harwich, Essex but with regular travel
As the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar we deliver reliable, efficient and cost-effective aids to navigation such as lighthouses, lightvessels, buoys and radio navigation, ensuring thousands of mariners navigate their way safely around the UK’s busiest waters. Proud of our reputation afforded to us by many centuries of dedication to the nation’s maritime infrastructure, we are a forward-thinking organisation and it is our ability to meet new challenges and the changing requirements of the modern mariner that keeps us relevant and effective.
We are seeking a proactive self-starter to take responsibility for all health and safety issues and relevant environmental compliance, ensuring we achieve best practice across our Service. As well as developing effective policies and procedures, you’ll carry out inspections and audits, provide expert guidance to staff, identify training needs and promote a health and safety fair culture throughout the organisation.
With the sheer diversity of our operations on shore and at sea, this is a challenge that offers real variety and scope. You will need to be educated to Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (CMIOSH), or an equivalent recognised body. You will have health and safety and environmental management experience and an in-depth knowledge of all relevant legislation.
You must also have a good knowledge of the OHSAS 18001 and ISO45001 standards and experience of related audits.
