Regulatory Services Officer, Southend-on-Sea, £36,153 - £42,806 depending on experience, Permanent

The Council are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and innovative professional who would like to come and work within their Regulatory Services Food Safety & Standards team. 

Your new role 
This role will be responsible for Food Safety & Standards and therefore the successful candidate must be a fully qualified environmental health/food safety officer with recent experience in food safety and standards inspection and enforcement. 
You will act as a source of advice and guidance in relation to Regulatory Services and related matters, including advice and guidance to the public, businesses and other members of staff. 
You will attend formal hearings of the Council as well as prosecution and appeal hearings before the Courts as required. 
The role will also require you to operate and record work carried out on departmental systems, contribute to developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners and other external bodies and support the development of a policy framework and enforcement protocols for key activities within Regulatory Services. 

As the Regulatory Services Officer you will be carrying out follow up visits and enquiries within relevant premises as required, adopting the role of specialist officer for specific Regulatory Services functions and on a rota basis as necessary. 
You will be supervising other staff members within the team, undertaking a range of complex ‘out of hours’ inspection and enforcement duties including evenings (running into the early hours of the morning) and weekends in accordance with contracted hours / as required, as well as carrying out formal actions in relation to offences, breaches of Conditions and other specific requirements, including issuing enforcement notices, Fixed penalty notices, verbal and written warnings and institution of legal proceedings. 

What you'll need to succeed 
To be successful in this position, you need to have a professional qualification in Environmental Health and/or certificate in Food, Premises and Standards Inspection and be a registered member of a relevant professional body and be able to evidence your CPD (Continuous Professional Development). 
A solid knowledge of relevant regulatory services legislation, investigation procedures and national, regional and local policies regarding regulatory service issues is a must. 
Experience of developing and delivery services within a policy framework is also essential.
