Senior Environmental Health Officers

Job Location: Primarily based at Annand House, Meadowfield. However, you may be required to work at any council workplace within County Durham.

(Applicants who are in their final year of study and aiming to be fully qualified as an Environmental Health Practitioner by June 2020 will also be considered).

In such circumstances, appointments will be commensurate with Public Protection Officer Grades 8-10, (£24,657 to £33,136 per annum) pending successful completion of the required Environmental Health qualifications, professional examinations and registration with EHRB.

We are seeking talented, dynamic and inspirational professionals who will play a key role in the delivery of better regulatory services for Durham County Council. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Environment, Health and Consumer Protection service team in one of the largest unitary councils in the country and contribute to the transformation and improvement of local regulatory services. To succeed you will need to understand the scale, and complexity, of the organisation and have the ability to meet the challenges ahead.

We are currently seeking to recruit additional highly motivated Environmental Health practitioners to join our specialist teams, who will share our commitment to the delivery of services that are of the highest quality, accord with the Council’s priorities and contribute to the development of a prosperous, safe and sustainable future for County Durham.

Successful candidates must have experience of working across the full range of environmental health disciplines, and possess the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to be able to undertake investigations, interventions, and enforcement in those subject areas.

We are particularly keen to attract candidates who can demonstrate competencies in the areas of food safety and pollution control.

Required essential Qualifications:

As a Senior EHO you will be appropriately qualified with a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and be registered with the Environmental Health Officer’s Registration Board or equivalent. You will have recent experience in the disciplines specified above.

Applicants working towards full qualification and aiming to achieve it by June 2020, will be considered for appointment at the Public Protection Officer grades (8-10) and move into a Senior Environmental Health Officer role on achieving all suitable qualifications and experience.  In these circumstances candidates may be offered a conditional appointment subject to completion of their Environmental Health degree qualification.
