The main function of Environmental Health and Licensing is to provide a safe, healthy and attractive environment for all those who live, work or visit the City of Exeter.

We are seeking to appoint a new Environmental Health Technician to work in the small but very busy team covering nuisance and anti-social behaviour within the Environmental Health and Licensing Team. This post provides an opportunity to get involved in an area of work that will impact on the state of Exeter’s environment.

Working as part of a small specialist team we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic person to assist with the day-to-day work of the team. This will involve dealing with complaints of nuisance and anti-social behaviour from the first point of referral through to resolution, including advising and supporting complainants, witnesses and perpetrators, investigating complaints and seeking informal resolution such as mediation, assertively challenging behaviour or taking legal action.

The successful candidate must possess a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health or Anti-Social Behaviour and will have previous experience of experience of investigating nuisance and anti-social behaviour complaints.

The successful candidate will have the ability to prioritise, plan and manage their time effectively, demonstrating the ability to meet demanding deadlines. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and orally to a range of audiences including the public.

Based at the Civic Centre, benefits include an operational car user allowance and flexible working hours. The role will require regular out of hours and weekend working and applicants must be committed to that level of flexibility. The successful candidate is also required to have a full clean driving licence and use of a vehicle for business purposes.
