Environmental Health Officer (Housing Licensing)   Ref: RMBC/19/00136

Community Safety & Street Scene

Based at:  Riverside House, Maltby Police Station or Rawmarsh Police Station

Salary details: £27,358 - £33,136 (£27,905 - £33,799 from 1st April 2019) dependent on skills and experience

Job details: 37 Hours, Full Time, Temporary - Open

Temporary post for up to 1 year (to 30th April 2020) with potential for extension.

Do you want to join a highly successful Housing licensing and enforcement team and make a real difference?  Do you want to be part of a significant change, and help deliver the next steps on our improvement journey?  Then we would be delighted to hear from you.

We are looking for a highly motivated, committed and EHRB registered Environmental Health Practitioner, who has excellent investigatory skills to join our Regulation and Enforcement Service.  Initially a temporary post, there may be the potential for this to become permanent before the end of the temporary contract.

With excellent investigatory skills you will work on Selective Licensing inspections and enforcement and possibly HMO licensing. This will include being a lead professional, supporting the team in dealing with anti-social behaviour and environmental issues caused by landlords and tenants.

To meet the requirements of this exciting role, you must hold EHRB registration and have knowledge of private sector housing, neighbourhood environmental health and ASB enforcement.  You need not be an expert in this field and we are keen for applications from people looking for a career change or who are newly qualified.  Whilst we are keen for a Housing expert to take the role, a rapid programme of formal and peer training and development will build the skills of any qualified Environmental Health Practitioner.  You should be skilled in developing and sustaining effective working relationships. You will maintain your own knowledge and enable us to develop further by having a key role in policy and practice development.

For an informal discussion, please contact Matt Finn, Community Protection Manager on Tel: 01709 823134.

In order to support the Council’s requirement to save a further £41 million from its budget, by collective agreement, from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2020 there is a temporary 1.15% pay reduction from the advertised substantive salary quoted, which will be spread out by means of a weekly/monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part time workers and new starters in year) will be granted.

This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).

This post operates under a Career Grade/Grading Assessment Scheme, with starting salary and progression through the grades being linked to experience, qualifications and level of work being undertaken.

Closing date: 17 March 2019

Interviews week commencing 1st April 2019.
