Safety Critical Role
Hyndburn is an attractive area set in the heart of Pennine Lancashire, within easy reach of Manchester, the lakes and the Coast. The Borough, comprised of Accrington and the surrounding Market Towns, is currently experiencing unprecedented levels of regeneration which is delivering real and substantial improvements to the quality of life in the area.
We are looking to recruit to an exciting post in our Regeneration and Housing team to deal with empty properties within the Borough.
As the Council’s Empty Property Officer, you will play a leading role in dealing with empty properties and bringing them back into productive use.
You will investigate complaints and referrals about empty properties and maintain our database of long term empty properties. You will encourage owners to bring empty properties back into use and provide advice and assistance. You will also be responsible for initiating and leading on enforcement interventions, including remedial action, and for preparing reports and providing data to support our work.
This is seen as essential, high profile work within the Borough and consequently we need a highly motivated, skilled professional who has the drive and determination to succeed in this difficult area of work.
You must have a good understanding of empty property issues and of the legislation and enforcement tools available to deal with them. You will also need a sound knowledge of building construction and building practice.
