Environmental Health Officers – Healthy Neighbourhoods

Ref: 004009

Salary from: £30,754 p.a

37 hours per week

2 roles - 1 permanent, & 1 fixed term contract for 2 years

There has never been a more exciting time to work in Swindon.  Swindon has an ambitious vision to become a leading regional centre by 2030 with the fastest growing economy outside London and the quality of life to go with it.  We are recognised as a regional and national growth point and are working not just with local partners, but regional and central government to deliver that vision.  We’re focused on performing better and offering more. And we’re leading the field with innovative services, introducing new initiatives right across the board.

We are now recruiting for 2 Environmental Health Officers to work in our close knit, friendly and high performing Public Protection team, which sits within Public Health. Public Protection is transforming; with a much greater emphasis on digital services and case management, mobile and innovative ways of working.

Which is where you come in: as an Environmental Health Officer in our Healthy Neighbourhoods Team you will be part of a successful team operating across the whole Housing and Environmental Protection arena. You will receive and deal with both proactive and complaint led cases covering Housing Standards, Statutory Nuisance, Public Health, and more.  In Housing you will use the full range of the new enforcement powers.  You will act across a wide range of determinants every day, and you will also have opportunities to become involved in more strategic work areas such as Air Quality, Environmental Noise Management and Development Control.

In short you will be working as part of a holistic and multi-disciplinary team providing advice, enablement and enforcement, as part of a wider public health delivery agenda.

With a degree in environmental health, and EHORB registration or equivalent, you may also have a Post Graduate qualification in a subject such as Acoustics or Housing, and you will be able to demonstrate a broad technical background across a range of relevant environmental health disciplines.  You will possess excellent people skills allied with the proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence.  You will have a track record of good performance in a busy environment.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

In return you will receive:

  • A Competitive Salary
  • Flexible working
  • At least 25 days holiday
  • A career average revalued earnings (CARE) pension scheme
  • Leisure and Legal Services discounts
  • Eating Out, Shopping and Entertainment discounts
