Job Details

Senior Environmental Health Officer

Salary details: PO2 - £31,401 to £34,106

Employer: Leeds City Council

Contract Type: Permanent Appointment

Hours per Week: 37

Closing date: 21 February 2019

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Environmental Health Officer to complement our multi-skilled environmental health team.

Working with our Team Manager and other Senior Officers you will lead the Regulatory Compliance Team responsible for delivering our health & safety, entertainment licensing, premises registration functions and our Dog Warden Service.  The role is diverse so if you are looking to expand your skill set whilst retaining a specialist role this is the job for you. You can expect a challenging mix of casework, projects and the opportunity to develop your managerial skills by leading and supervising a team.

We are inviting applications from dedicated, passionate and highly motivated Environmental Health Officers who can work on their own initiative, have a desire to develop their career and are ready to adapt to future ways of working. We are looking for people who can engage with communities and businesses and have a real passion for improving public health.

You should possess excellent communication skills and have experience in managing a busy caseload. Whilst you should be able to interpret policy, technical guidance and legislation, a significant proportion of our work involves advice and guidance, so it’s important that you have good influencing skills and can think laterally to resolve problems.

The successful applicant should have the ability to build effective working relationships and demonstrate a commitment to reducing health inequalities.

Applicants will require a recognised degree or diploma in Environmental Health and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board.

We can offer a wide range of experience and challenges to the successful applicant. As part of a multi disciplinary service there are opportunities to gain experience of a range of environmental work including food safety, health & safety, environmental protection, animal health and air quality. Leeds City Council is an employer which values, supports and encourages the development of its employees.

Working hours are the standard 37 hours per week with the requirement to work flexible hours occasionally to meet service requirements.

For more information about the posts contact Ruth Turner on 0113 3786568 or Scott Higgins on 0113 3786586.
