What do you need to know about the role?

This role focuses on the day to day restaurant related safety matters for KFC UK&I across all company restaurants, resulting in compliance with all safety legislative requirements, and deal with all visit outcomes from external enforcement bodies, including Environmental Health Officers (EHOs), Fire Officers, Trading Standards.

The successful applicant will effectively manage individual issues, ensuring risks are appropriately addressed, minimizing the risk of brand damage and action by enforcement authorities.

This role requires an individual with an understanding of the commercial/operational environment. The role will include identifying and implementing tools and processes to overcome barriers to effective risk management in our restaurants.

This role is office based, with regular travel throughout the UK, and occasional overnight stays.

Note – where safety is referred, this includes food safety, health & safety and fire safety at a restaurant level.       

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively deal with all enforcement letters/correspondence following routine and ad-hoc enforcement visits, including responding to and liaising with enforcement officers, resolving issues in restaurant, reducing the risk of formal action and protecting the brand. This involves following up on all correspondence, setting short term objectives with store teams/ACs and providing pragmatic achievable solutions/guidance for achieving compliance. Includes carrying out restaurant visits within the designated geographical area.
  • Develop effective relationships with enforcement officers and support the Primary Authority Partnerships with Woking Borough Council and Bucks & MK Fire Authority.
  • Where directed, take the lead role in PACE cautions and potential prosecutions, minimizing brand damage.
  • Act as the restaurant and area contact for interpreting legal and best practice guidance in the fields of food safety, health & safety and fire safety.
  • Ensure all accidents/incidents reported by equity stores are effectively reviewed and reported as necessary under RIDDOR within the required timelines. Liaison with the operations team and Regional Safety Managers to ensure effective follow up/investigation where required.
  • Maintain relationship with KFC UKI insurance companies and restaurants to ensure accurate information on insurance claims is collated quickly and efficiently.
  • Carry out periodic analysis of insurance claim data against accident report data to highlight areas for improvement/change in order to reduce claims risk and reduce frequency of accidents. Ensuring risks are appropriately addressed, minimizing the risk of brand damage.
  • Develop tools and methods to help identify and ultimately reduce risk in conjunction with other KFC departments with the aim of driving down insurance claims.
  • Assist in managing annual renewals, engineering inspection policies, Public liability, Employer’s liability, Landlord Insurance, Motor Insurance and Property Insurance.
  • Prepare accident/claims analysis data for the period management report.
  • Prepare and present quarterly claims and accident analysis reports for the Health and safety Forum.
  • Assist Risk & Compliance Manager in developing tools and processes to drive restaurant compliance to KFC operating standards.

Experience & Capabilities:

Degree educated or equivalent.

Environmental Health related Degree or Diploma desirable

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in an Environmental Health Officer role.
  • Requirement for knowledge of theory and principles within the field of Environmental Health, including relevant technical and legislative knowledge and understanding.
  • Experience in practical risk assessment implementation including the areas of fire risk assessment (desirable).
  • Influencing skills and communications skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

Good understanding of food service/fast food retail environment.
