About us

Mole Valley lies at the heart of Surrey. The towns of Dorking and Leatherhead are the District’s main centres.

Our purpose built open-plan offices have recently been refurbished. We are located opposite the Sports Centre which offers a swimming pool, sports hall, gym, aerobics studio and café and Dorking Halls, which provides a range of facilities including a café, cinema, theatre and concerts.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to join our ambitious and progressive Shared Environmental Health Partnership at Mole Valley and Tandridge District Councils and be a valued member of a friendly and professional team.

The role in the Commercial Team offers a wide range of challenges, and opportunities to make a difference and contribute to the success of our shared service, whilst developing your own knowledge and experience.

The successful candidate will enjoy a range of duties, focusing on the inspection of food businesses in all risk categories, including a number of approved establishments, the participation in sampling programmes, as well as the inspection of workplaces and the completion of nationally and locally agreed targeted health and safety projects. In addition there will be the opportunity to contribute to the risk assessment and monitoring of private water supplies, to participate in the delivery of accredited training courses and the investigation of infectious disease cases, together with playing a key role in supporting the service’s primary authority partnership agreements with several high profile businesses.

Achieving all this will require flexibility, enthusiasm, good organisation skills and an interest in and knowledge of the topics involved. The role will involve working closely with colleagues, business proprietors and elected members and so will require excellent customer service and communication skills.

About you:

The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer who holds a BSc in Environmental Health or equivalent qualification and EHRB registration, with proven experience of promoting compliance through both a supportive as well as a staged approach to enforcement and will be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of current legislation.

You will manage your own caseload of food safety, health and safety at work-related inspections, interventions and investigation of infectious disease, as well as service requests received from members of the public relating to commercial premises.

You will be working in a beautiful part of the country, amongst the Surrey Hills. Benefits also include flexible working, casual user car allowance, generous leave entitlement and the opportunity to further training and personal development. We also pay your CIEH membership fees.

If you are excited by this opportunity, are highly organised, positive and have a commercial awareness that allows you to develop excellent business opportunities and relationships, we would love to hear from you.

This post requires a standard DBS disclosure.
