About us

Mole Valley lies at the heart of Surrey. The towns of Dorking and Leatherhead are the District’s main centres.

Our purpose built open-plan offices have recently been refurbished. We are located opposite the Sports Centre which offers a swimming pool, sports hall, gym, aerobics studio and café and Dorking Halls, which provides a range of facilities including a café, cinema, theatre and concerts.

About the role

An exciting opportunity for two Environmental Health Practitioners to join our forward thinking Shared Environmental Health Partnership at Mole Valley and Tandridge District Councils. You could be based in the market town of Dorking or in Oxted, at the foot of the North Downs, as a valued member of a friendly and professional team.

The role in the Residential and Environment Team offers a wide range of challenges, and opportunities to make a difference, often working in a rural setting. Focussing on improving housing standards, HHSRS inspections, HMO licensing, caravan site licensing and supporting the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants. You will also develop and hone your skills in dealing with statutory nuisances, environmental permitting, planning consultations and air quality. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of our shared service, whilst developing your own knowledge.

This post requires a standard DBS disclosure.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and practical individual with excellent customer service and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of housing legislation, competent in HHSRS inspection and assessment and HMO licensing. Also some experience in environmental protection. You’ll need a good, common sense approach and practical problem solving and analytical skills and a good working knowledge of current legislation. You will manage your own caseload of private sector housing work and environmental protection issues.

Applicants must have a relevant degree or diploma in Environmental Health, be able to demonstrate current experience and knowledge of housing standards and other legislation relevant to the post.  You will have excellent customer care skills, an adaptable approach and the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and organisations.
