Senior Operational Risk Business Partner

Permanent f/t (37.5 hrs pw)

Swindon

Ref: IRC72225

Summary

In an organisation as complex, varied and exciting as the National Trust, managing our risk is a significant part of the business. As a Senior Operational Risk Business Partner, you’ll be living and breathing our risk awareness and strategy, managing a team of dispersed business partners to advise on health and safety, security, fire, access and environmental risks.

What it’s like to work here

You’ll be managing a team of business partners across the northern half of our regions, working across the North, the Midlands, Northern Ireland and Wales. You’ll need to live in this geographical area, but we will find you a base in one of our offices nearest to your home. You will need to travel across the regions and countries on a fairly regular basis, so you’ll need to be comfortable working and staying away from your main office.

What you’ll be doing

It’s a cliché, but it’s very true that at the Trust, no two days are alike. As a leader in the Operational Risk team, your day could be anything from dealing with regulators, representing the Trust on external partnerships, helping develop internal policy or advising on complex property related projects across a varied and large geographical area, with everything from mansion houses, villages, farms, castles, monuments and acres of woods, coast and open countryside.

In addition, as the Senior Operational Risk Business Partner in the northern half of the Trust (covering Northern Ireland, Wales, the North and the Midlands) you’ll be managing a team of 8 business partners to deliver collaborative and enabling risk management advice. Our business is too diverse to have a one size fits all approach, so you’ll need to be adept at flexing your style and taking a pragmatic and imaginative approach to achieve compliance.

Who we’re looking for

We’re serious about managing risk, so this isn’t a job for the faint-hearted. You’ll also need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Strong technical expertise in Health and Safety and Risk Management (member of IOSH or CIEH).
  • People management, particularly managing remote teams across various locations
  • Corporate understanding of senior risk management
  • Experience of working as a client advisor, in a partnership style
  • An understanding of visitor safety and compliance standards  in either a heritage environment or countryside setting
  • A proactive and service focussed approach to client relationship management
  • Someone with all of the above who is located in the area covered by the role.
