Radon Team Leader

£55,683 - £60,226 per annum

37.5 hours per week

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is UK’s single largest source of radiation exposure in the home and at work. The PHE Radon Group delivers advice, health protection services and research relating to radon exposure. 

The Radon Group Leader has overall responsibility for setting the direction, emphasis and scheduling of major work items and the delivery of the Group’s work programme.

The Group Leader will

  • lead the scientific and operational protection work of the Group which encompasses investigations of scientific issues in radon, collaborative research and studies, development and implementation of public health programmes, development of new charged-for and non-charged services
  • present PHE’s radon work on radon in a wide range of contexts including: scientific publications and forums, replies to parliamentary questions, news and other broadcast media and individual responses to worried householders.

The Group Leader is responsible for the governance, risk and project management arrangements in the Group and for managing significant income and expenditure budgets and targets.

Option 3 – External

Open to all external applicants (anyone) from outside the Civil Service (including by definition internal applicants).

Appointment to this post is on PHE terms and conditions of service. Only previous continuous service in the Civil Service is recognised for contractual purposes.

The post presents a combination of scientific challenge, business management and team leadership.
