Environmental Health / Housing Officer (Private Sector Housing)

Grade H £29,055 - £32,233 per annum

Post No. CH312 - 37 Hours per week

Cannock Chase Council is a forward thinking authority planning to meet the key challenges for local government in the coming years.  We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced professional to join the Private Sector Housing Team. The Team is responsible for regulatory functions including housing standards, HMO Licensing and mobile homes sites, together with the Council’s Disabled Facilities Grants programme.

You should have previous experience working as a Environmental Health/Housing Officer, covering inspections, investigations/research skills and enforcement duties, have communication and presentation skills to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively at all levels, along with excellent influencing, persuasion and negotiation skills.

You should also be objective in all situations and be able to deal with confrontational issues as well as having customer care skills to deal effectively with a range of situations. In addition you should be able to identify and deliver innovative project work and to co-ordinate campaigns, activities and events with internal /external partners.

A Degree, MSc or Diploma in Housing/Building Surveying or Environmental Health and knowledge of one or more relevant specialist work area(s) including Housing Standards, Public Health, Housing in Multiple Occupation, Empty Properties and other Environmental Health activities and a Housing and Health and Safety Rating Scheme Qualification is essential. In the case of an EHO, the applicant must hold a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB).

You should have IT skills (including Word and Excel) sufficient to be able to input data and produce documents.

Possession of a relevant post graduate qualification in a specialist area would also be desirable.
