Located 10 miles from the city centre and just 13 minutes to Euston from Harrow & Wealdstone station there are great transport links via the Metropolitan Line, Watford DC Line and national rail service. Harrow Council’s Community and Environment directorate are looking for an Environmental Health Officer or Equivalent to join their Domestic Environmental Health team.
The post holder will report into the Environmental Health Team Leader (Domestic) and be responsible for carrying out inspection, enforcement and advisory duties in respect of Environmental Protection, Private Sector Housing, Air Quality and Contaminated Land.
To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience:
A working and up to date knowledge of relevant Health, Safety and Welfare legislation and approved Codes of Practice
Direct evidence and good or significant knowledge in the application of legislation, policy and practice within the Environmental Health and wider Enforcement services
Direct evidence and good or significant knowledge of professional practice and procedure in terms of environmental protection, Air Quality, private sector housing and public health disciplines
Experience of working with and managing the relationships with a range of stakeholders from public, private and third sector organisations. (level 2) experience of working creatively with internal and external agencies to develop innovative solutions to complex problems
Direct evidence or substantial evidence of undertaking enforcement (including prosecutions) and interventions of commercial and domestic premises under relevant disciplines for the role and managing all casework to conclusion
MSc/BSc in Environmental Health or equivalent accredited or recognised by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or equivalent body.
Registration requirements for Certificate of Registration of the Environmental Health Officers’ Registration Board (EHRB) or Equivalent Body
Hold the HHSRS training certification (desirable)
Meet the competency requirements of the CIEH (CPD), and (RDNA) the DEFRA requirements of qualifications and competency for managing environmental, housing and Public Health issues to ensure competency to practice at the appropriate level.
Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a demanding and pressurised environment independently and as part of a team.
Aptitude for understanding the technical and legal aspects of the role, to ensure successfully and robust interpretation and solutions.
