About The Team

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly experienced and forward looking Food Safety professional to join our friendly, committed but small team working closely with our Regulatory Services colleagues.

We take an intelligence led approach to our work across a wide Environment Health.  You will play a key role in our efforts to tackle, scams, illegal sales of alcohol and tobacco as well as tackling our top problem trader sectors.

You will be expected to administer the full range of Trading Standards duties, including dealing with complaints, FOI requests, business advice, investigations and project work, achieving compliance with all statutory and non-statutory requirements in accordance with divisional policies, procedures and legislation. Ensuring maintenance of appropriate records and the provision of statistics.

The nature of the post will require a flexible approach to occasionally work out of hours including evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To undertake inspections at commercial premises to seek compliance with relevant legislation. To give advice and guidance on preventing contravention's and issue notices.
  2. To investigate and advise on complaints and enquiries from members of the public and business.
  3. To have an input to policies and procedures and to make a positive contribution towards the team achieving its objectives.
  4. To investigate reports of communicable illnesses and infectious diseases.

Your Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise a demanding workload.
  • Conversant with Microsoft Office (Word XP, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Internet applications, Social Media, and database systems; Flare.

Essential for the Role

  • Five years in Food Safety enforcement desirable.

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
