There has never been a more exciting time to work in Swindon. Swindon has a long term, ambitious vision to become a leading regional centre by 2030 with the fastest growing economy outside London and the quality of life to go with it. We are recognised as a regional and national growth point and are working not just with local partners, but regional and central government to deliver that vision. We’re focused on performing better and offering more. And we’re leading the field with innovative services, introducing new initiatives right across the board.
Swindon is now recruiting for 3 Environmental Health Officers; 2 in a full time permanent role, and 1 in a full time fixed term contract over 2 years.
Which is where you come in: as an Environmental Health Officer in our Healthy Neighbourhoods Team you will be part of a successful team operating across the whole Environmental Protection and Housing arena. You will receive and deal with both proactive and complaint led cases covering Housing Standards, HMOs, Statutory Nuisance, Public Health and more. You will also be expected to contribute to some more strategic work areas such as Air Quality, Environmental Noise Management, Development Control, and Environmental Permitting. You will act across a wide range of determinants every day.
You will be working as part of a holistic and multi-disciplinary Healthy Neighbourhoods team providing advice, enablement, and enforcement; as part of a wider public health delivery agenda. This is an exciting opportunity to experience a very wide range of functions and work in a very busy, friendly, and mutually supportive team. You will also regularly contribute to the team’s Out of Hours stand-by service dealing with active and acute enforcement cases.
With a degree, or equivalent, in environmental health, EHORB registration and membership of (or eligibility for) CIEH, you may also have a Post Graduate qualification in a subject such as Acoustics or Housing, for instance, and you will be able to demonstrate a broad technical background across a range of relevant environmental health disciplines. You will possess excellent people skills allied with the proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence. You will have a track record of good performance in a busy environment.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
