The Private Sector Housing Team looks after the health, safety and welfare of all private residents of Portsmouth. We do this through the provision of loans or grants to enable home owners or tenants to live in a safe home or through the use of the range of enforcement powers available to ensure landlords maintain their properties to the current standard as found within the Housing Act 2004. The Private Sector Housing team also deals with public health issues around the city and give tenants and landlords support regarding Tenancy Rights. The team additionally includes Home safety and Telecare services.
The role includes line management of a number of professional officers, where you will be required to undertake one-to-one appraisals and support, setting out team and individual priorities, workload and performance monitoring, and providing help and advice to team members to enhance their knowledge. You would apply the principles and management methodology of the Systems Thinking Approach to achieve excellent customer service.
The role will include undertaking detailed investigations relating to any Private Sector Housing or Public Health issues, inspection of Houses in Multiple Occupation for licensing purposes under the Housing Act 2004, bring empty properties back into use and you will be the lead officer for the Park Home Management team in managing a number of residential mobile home park sites.
The role involves giving evidence in the County and Magistrates Court, Residential Property Tribunals and attending Public Enquiries as required. Helping and assisting tenants and landlords will also be part of your role.
