Here at Barrow Borough Council we look after our employees and offer a place where people are proud to live and work.  A better quality of life.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced professional to lead and manage Public Protection Services (Environmental Health and Licensing).  You will have a diploma or BSc/Msc in Environmental Health and at least 3 years’ experience of managing staff engaged in Environmental Health work and it is desirable that you will have previously managed licensing.  You will possess robust and up to date knowledge in all of these areas and be able to demonstrate excellent people, performance and resource management skills.  You must also have the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide information and advice in accurate spoken English.

You will be managing the operational work of two Team Leaders to ensure that corporate and service objectives and outcomes are met.

To be successful, you will be self-motivated and possess excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills.  This post is ideal for someone with operational management experience looking to progress their career.

We need a manager who can innovate and develop service delivery, with a customer focused approach, to enable the Council to meet its public protection responsibilities, against a background of increasingly demanding resource pressures. We are transforming our services to be more efficient and business-like and need your help to drive this forward.  Our new structure takes effect from 1st April 2018.

The Borough of Barrow-in-Furness is situated at the southern tip of Cumbria, on the northern shores of Morecambe Bay and set against the spectacular backdrop of the English Lake District Mountains.  It is surrounded by beautiful beaches and is a bustling Victorian town with a proud industrial heritage and a long association with shipbuilding and maritime activities.  The area is perfect for people wanting an active lifestyle with easy access to beaches and the Lake District. The housing is second to none and very reasonably priced. The role is also commutable from the M6 and the surrounding areas with one of the most scenic journeys in the country.

Applicants are strongly advised to use the criteria in the person specification as sub-headings in their application to make it clear how they meet each of the selection criteria.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure.
