Environmental Enforcement Officer
Full-time, 37 hours per week
£28,485 - £31,601

You will be joining a bold and innovative organisation that has big ambitions – for the borough and for our staff. We do things differently here. We go beyond expectations to nurture and develop our communities and our colleagues as we shape an exciting future for Basingstoke and Deane.

Your focus will be on leading the council’s response to waste crime, and predominantly fly-tipping. From responding to the initial report to taking the case to court, you will be responsible for gathering evidence, taking witness statements, interviewing suspects and putting prosecution files together. Working within our multi-disciplined Environmental Health team you will also contribute to the wider work of the team, with involvement in noise nuisance complaints, dog behaviour complaints and some other public health work. The role also requires occasional out of hours work.

The demands of the role mean your talents will include written and verbal skills to suit different audiences. You will be familiar with being challenged, dealing with difficult people and using your excellent verbal and written skills to get the best out of these situations.

A must for this role is relevant enforcement experience and preferably familiarity with the processes for gathering evidence and conducting investigations in line with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. Relevant qualifications and training are important and will help, but the most important thing is that you can show us you’re capable of doing this work and can make the difference we want to see.

In return, we’ll provide all the support you need to develop your career with us, including the possibility of mentoring.
As one of the most financially resilient local authorities, we can also offer an exceptional future within this thriving borough. While London is in easy reach by road or rail, the picturesque South Downs National Park and the North Wessex Downs are both close at hand, as well as North Hampshire’s many historic villages.

You can look forward to real quality of life, particularly as we offer a very flexible approach to working hours. There’s also an excellent range of benefits including free parking, salary sacrifice scheme for lease cars, healthcare cash plan, childcare vouchers, pension scheme, generous leave entitlement and more.

The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme). If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.
