SALARY RANGE £26,644 TO £30,639 (pay award pending) plus casual car allowance

Dover District is steeped in history, with the White Cliffs, Dover Castle and the Port of Dover; all iconic symbols of our status as the Gateway to Europe and Britain's frontline town. The district includes the coastal towns of Deal and Sandwich and the rural hinterland. As well as the coastline, the District has wonderful countryside, lush valleys and beautiful parks and gardens.

Dover district has much to offer as a place to live, work and play. As well as a great past reflected in its rich heritage, Dover has an exciting future. We are a forward thinking and outward looking authority with the desire to accelerate growth and economic development through new business investment, housing, and infrastructure.

Following a retirement, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic person who wants to make a real difference to improve the homes residents live in. This is a challenging but rewarding post working in our busy but friendly Private Sector Housing Team based in Dover which covers a wide range of duties.

The team is in the regulatory services division and this new post will deal with the full range of Private Sector Housing functions but mainly dealing with complaints regarding poor housing conditions and Disabled Facilities grants. You may also be involved with HMO licencing, empty properties, housing assistance and caravan site licensing

You should have good computer, communication and negotiation skills and will need to undertake visits and inspections with minimum supervision.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of inspecting residential properties
  • An ability to communicate and negotiate well with the public
  • Ideally previous experience of working in a private sector housing team or similar environment.
  • You will be educated to A level standard or equivalent
  • An HHSRS certificate of competency will be a distinct advantage.
  • Good communication, customer care and interpersonal skills are essential as you will be working in what can often be demanding situations.

A valid full driving licence and use of a car are essential requirements of this post.

Part time/job sharing would be considered should the essential criteria have been met
