We explore every angle to combat danger

Enforcement, engagement, science, intelligence and tech: it takes a lot of expertise to keep consumers and the environment free from danger across the UK. At the Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS), that’s our mission, and your online investigation skills could be a major part of it.

We’re investing and growing across the board to raise compliance standards that affect the lives of 65 million people.

Drive online investigations to ensure product safety

As a Product Safety Enforcement Manager, you’ll search out and solve product safety issues that affect the nation. In particular, you will specialise in the development of internet investigations, deploying covert online techniques to gather intelligence. Thar means working in partnership with many different organisations, both domestic and overseas, to get it right. You’ll also use your expertise to supervise and support the work of colleagues, and ensure investigations and projects are managed effectively.

Security and safety go hand in hand

You’ll bring significant experience of working within the UK Criminal Justice System on investigations or intelligence work. This should include knowledge of the RIPA and CPIA, and you should hold or be willing to obtain security vetting. Logical and analytical in your approach, you’ll be used to accessing and developing information through open source, and aware of the associated legal and security issues. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential.

Benefits that meet high standards

As a Civil Service employee, you’ll be entitled to a large range of benefits, including:

  • Regular performance and development reviews
  • 25 days of annual leave on entry, increasing to 30 days after 5 years
  • One further day paid privilege entitlement to mark the Queen’s Birthday
  • Flexible working patterns including part- time or time-term working
  • Generous paid maternity and paternity leave
  • Interest-free season ticket and bicycle loans
  • Competitive contributory pension scheme
