We see danger so consumers don’t have to
When it comes to protecting people and the environment, no one is more passionately committed than the Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS). From eco-design and energy labelling to new regulatory challenges around conflict minerals, our work is constantly evolving. We’re investing and growing across the board to raise compliance standards that affect the lives of 65 million people. And that means investing in your skills and development too.
Product safety is people safety
As a Product Safety Enforcement Officer, you’ll help to keep the UK population safe by researching and solving product safety issues. Expect to contribute to investigative cases by gathering and analysing evidence, producing reports to share knowledge and expertise, and taking part in case conferences. You’ll work in collaboration with other government departments and will have opportunities to travel around the UK.
Take your investigations to the next level
You’ll have experience of product safety or regulatory investigation, including interviewing, report writing and collaborative working. Good practical knowledge of investigative tools and techniques is essential and you’ll have some understanding of investigative law and wider criminal justice procedures, including giving evidence in court.
Benefits that meet high standards
As a Civil Service employee, you’ll be entitled to a large range of benefits, including:
- Regular performance and development reviews
- 25 days of annual leave on entry, increasing to 30 days after 5 years
- One further day paid privilege entitlement to mark the Queen’s Birthday
- Flexible working patterns including part- time or time-term working
- Generous paid maternity and paternity leave
- Interest-free season ticket and bicycle loans
- Competitive contributory pension scheme
