Environmental Health Officers

Salary: Up to £41,664 plus essential car user allowance.

Are you a talented environmental health officer who is looking for an exciting challenge? If so one of the roles could be right for you!

Watford is an exciting mix of market town aesthetic and urban buzz. Big enough to be bold and small enough for you to make a difference. We are one of a handful of local authorities with a directly elected mayor providing for stability and strong leadership.

Our Section includes environmental health, licensing, sustainability, community safety, safeguarding and more. We are expanding, and from 1st April 2019 we will be delivering commercial environmental health functions on behalf of our neighbouring district, Three Rivers District Council. We are well placed to take advantage of the emerging commercial market and expand into new areas helping us protect and develop our current high quality services to residents and businesses.

The Role
Our growth means we have a variety of roles available; you could take on an exciting and challenging post as a generic EHO giving you the opportunity to work across the range of environmental health functions. Or, you could take on a role with a commercial environmental health focus acting as a specialist and lead officer supporting the generic team. This post will give you the opportunity to work in disciplines that you are experienced in, and to develop in those that you are not.
We are a forward thinking authority that is ambitious, innovative, and entrepreneurial, and works as a team to deliver services. With a leadership culture of empowerment, you will be expected and rewarded for actively participating in service improvement and development. Experience of several environmental health functions is an advantage but more importantly we are looking for someone with the right approach and enthusiasm to develop and deliver excellent services. We would welcome applications from fully qualified officers or may consider a graduate EHO that has completed their professional exams and is near completion of their learning portfolio.

The successful candidates will have the ability and drive to provide a customer focused, responsive, risk based, effective and professional service. Key requirements include very effective communication and team working skills, the ability and motivation to solve problems, personal credibility and an approach that builds rapport and confidence from customers. We are committed to supporting you to develop, both personally and in terms of your specialist technical knowledge.
Sound exciting? Come and join our team, come and make a difference.

Successful applicants will need to attend our Assessment Centre which will be held on 27 February.
