About Croydon

Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population.

Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion for supporting business growth and responding to local needs.

Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future. That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead.

Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.

Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

 About the role

Environmental Health Officer(s)

Grade 10 to 11; £33,444 to £38,229 (note – for EHO only, Discretionary Market Supplement of £5,000 payment, annually reviewed and paid monthly)

3.5 FTE positions available across this role and role number 08025 Housing enforcement Officer.

Croydon is a dynamic and popular borough, with significant develop plans and good transport links, which is an area of high housing demand. We have a high percentage of privately rented properties, many of which are not adequately maintained.

We are determined to improve the private rented sector in Croydon, to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve housing conditions, and a borough-wide selective licensing scheme started on 1 October 2015. As we have over 32,000 privately rented properties we need a team of enthusiastic and self-motivated officers to help deliver our highly ambitious aims. We now have vacancies for environmental health and enforcement officers.

Are you a fully qualified and EHORB registered environmental health officer with housing and HHSRS experience, or are you working towards full qualification and registration? Or do you have skills and experience in a housing related field, with or without alternative qualifications? Are you self-motivated and enthusiastic with a keen desire to improve housing conditions for the people of Croydon? If so, you’re just who we need to join our team of dedicated professional officers.

We are looking for people who know about housing disrepair and remedial works through training or experience in a relevant field, and who have an understanding of the housing health and safety rating system and other relevant legislation used in housing enforcement, although practical experience of enforcement is not necessary as full training will be given. Support will be given if you are new into the area of work and demonstrate an enthusiasm to learn.

You will be able to manage your own case load, be enforcement minded and demonstrate excellent customer care skills as you will be dealing with members of the public on a daily basis. As well as practical field work, the role includes data inputting and preparation of letters and notices, and IT skills will be an advantage.

For further information or an informal discussion please contact Nick Gracie-Langrick on Tel: 020 8726 6000 Ext: 50190 or by email nick.gracie-langrick@croydon.gov.uk
