Housing Services

Thanet District Council serves the beautiful coastal towns and villages in East Kent; including Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate and Minster, providing an array of services to over 127,000 residents.

Thanet is a great place to live and work. Our historic seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs are rich in heritage and opportunity. With the multi-million pound Turner Contemporary Gallery, the fast speed rail link to London, and the popular Westwood Cross shopping centre - this is an exciting time to join Thanet District Council. We are determined to improve the quality of life for local people. We believe that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and by being prepared to do things in an innovative way we can accelerate improvement and best meet the challenges ahead.

All posts include generous annual leave, flexible working (some posts excluded), a 37 hour week, as well as access to the local government pension scheme.

Main Duties:

Thanet District Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Housing Improvement Officer to join its Private Sector Housing Team. You will help ensure Thanet's private sector residents live in safe homes by using the wide range of enforcement tools at your disposal in a confident and determined manner. This role will focus on responding to housing complaints and undertaking pro-active housing and health initiatives.

The postholder will also support empty property interventions and our Housing Licensing Team, which is responsible for our HMO, selective, and caravan site licensing regimes. This post will be attractive to anyone seeking to broaden their experience with a challenging and varied role where initiative and robust interventions are encouraged.

Essential Requirements:

* You will have experience of using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and the enforcement options available to you under the Housing Act 2004.

* You will be expected to understand and be able to use alternative legislative provisions that can improve housing conditions in the private sector, such as those relating to statutory nuisance.

* Applicants will hold a degree or similar qualification in a relevant subject, such as environmental health or building surveying, as well as a competency certificate for HHSRS.

* Due to the nature of this role, this post requires an enhanced DBS check.

* This post requires you to have a full driving license and own transport.

* Previous applicants for this post need not apply

Interviews are due to be held in the week commencing 5th November 2018.
