Job outline

Hart District Council works hard to make a positive contribution to the lives of our residents and to ensure that a decent quality of life is extended to everyone in Hart.  We do this by delivering continuous improvement and innovation in delivering the services that matter most to our residents.

The Council holds a set of core values: to be helpful, approachable, responsive, and to take ownership of issues when they arise; and to see them through to the right conclusion for our residents.

We would like to recruit a new Environmental Health Practitioner.  The role represents a great opportunity for someone to join a creative, innovative and enthusiastic Regulatory Services Department.

The primary focus of the role will be to protect the health and wellbeing of the Community by dealing with a broad and interesting Environmental Health caseload.  You will be able to demonstrate: excellent communication and negotiation skills; enthusiasm; self-motivation; sound judgement; an ability to prioritise work under pressure; a proactive approach to problem solving and tackling challenges; excellent organisational skills; a commitment to excellence in customer care; and an ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve Service delivery.

As part of a small but established team, the successful candidate will carry out a diverse range of duties, including but not exhaustively:

  • Planning and Licensing consultations (Previous experience desired but not essential)
  • Statutory Nuisance investigations
  • Air Quality and Contaminated Land Management (Previous experience not essential)

Applicants applying for the role should be qualified to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline and have up to date practical knowledge and experience of applying Environmental Protection law.  We would be particularly keen to hear from applicants with an acoustics qualification.  A full driving licence is essential.

Hart District Council offers: a competitive salary; an essential car allowance; free car parking; a generous leave entitlement; flexible working; and the pleasure of working within a picturesque corner of Hampshire.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dympna Sanders, Environmental Health Team Leader on 01252 774286.

The closing date for completed applications is 29 October 2018. Interviews for successful candidates will take place on 9 November 2018.
