An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Portsmouth City Councils Private Sector Housing Team.

The Private Sector Housing Team aims to improve living conditions for people across the private sector and delivers a wide range of services including the regulation of privately rented accommodation, delivery of financial assistance to enable home owners or tenants to live in a safe home, Disabled Facilities Grants, mandatory HMO Licensing and residential Mobile Home Park Licensing, investigation of allegations of harassment and illegal evictions and Home safety and Telecare services.

You will lead a team responsible for the regulation of privately rented accommodation, including enforcement of statutory housing standards, licensing of HMO's, empty properties, public health issues, Rent it Right (our landlord accreditation scheme) and our letting agency.

You will be required to undertake one-to-one appraisals and support, setting out team and individual priorities, workload and performance monitoring, and providing help and advice to team members to enhance their knowledge. You would apply the principles and management methodology of the Systems Thinking Approach to achieve excellent customer service.

You will provide a comprehensive local management service to the residential and non-residential Mobile Home Parks in accordance with either the current legislation or management contracts. You will undertake pro-active inspects of the park home sites and identify problems or small works and work with the team in rectifying any issues identified.

You will have a vital role to play in HMO licensing, requiring a high attention to detail and a meticulous and methodical approach. You will be involved in serving statutory notices and dealing with legally bound processes, which includes gathering detailed evidence to support court cases, which you may be expected to attend to give evidence. You will be inspecting licenced properties to ensure that any licence conditions are being complied with and undertaking full (Housing Health & Safety Rating System) HHSRS inspections as required.
