Chelmsford City Council is in a position to appoint an Environmental Health Officer to its Business Compliance team within Public Health and Protection Services. This is a great opportunity to develop and expand skills across both food safety and health and safety regulation. Officers will also be expected to help deliver the Council’s commitment on public health by promoting healthy eating and other public health initiatives and support the wider activities of the Service as necessary.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, suitably qualified and skilled Environmental Health Officer to join our team and help maintain and improve both regulatory compliance and health for the residents and workforce of the District.

To be successful, you will be a qualified Environmental Health Officer, competent in regulation in line with Chapter 4 of the Food Law Code of Practice, and with a working knowledge of health and safety enforcement. You will have the skills to successfully communicate requirements and influence standards and behaviour. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to team working as well as having the ability to work efficiently and effectively on your own. High standards of customer service and the discipline to deliver this across a large and varied workload are also essential. 

Applications from graduates awaiting registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board will be considered for the right candidate. An appointment in this situation will be to grade 7 and subject to achieving registration and competency which must be completed within 12 months of appointment.

You will be required to work 37 hours per week and a full driving licence is required for this post.

*Graduates who have yet to complete their logbook and registration will be appointed at Grade 7 and will be required to gain successful registration and competency within 12 months of appointment.
