One of the UK’s most inspiring and best known faith-based organisations, The Salvation Army, is looking for a results-driven individual with experience of dealing with occupational safety, health & welfare in a regulatory or commercial environment to join us as Head of Safe Mission.

Your challenge? To promote a positive continually improving safety culture in the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland and to secure specific safe mission objectives across all programme areas. You’ll achieve this by creating, promoting and monitoring a framework of policy, guidance, advice and training which local and divisional managers will then adopt and implement. The framework will also be promoted and monitored by five FTE Regional Safe Mission Advisors that you will manage, supported by a Safe Mission Specialist Support role in our Secretarial & Administration Services Unit.

Devising a risk assessment and risk reduction strategy, helping to develop, review and implement a safeguarding policy, designing a training programme to improve leadership competencies and ensuring effective monitoring and evaluating is carried out by the Safe Mission team – all are aspects of this vital role.

A relevantly qualified and registered Environmental Health Practitioner, you are also registered to deliver accredited CIEH training level 2 & 3 awards and willing to undertake additional qualifications as necessary. What's more, you have a supportive, flexible and facilitative approach and are used to managing a team. Effective negotiation and conflict management skills are important too, as is the ability to plan and prioritise a busy workload in order to meet deadlines. Above all, you have what it takes to pragmatically apply your experience and knowledge to a changing safety culture and the tenacity and determination to get the job done.
