Main Duties

We are looking for a Senior Housing Improvement Officer to join our Private Sector Housing service. You will be responsible for managing the council’s Housing Improvement Team, which helps ensure Thanet’s residents are able to benefit from safe and healthy housing. By effectively leading and motivating your team, you will provide a customer focussed response to dealing with poor housing conditions. Your team will also work closely with our Housing Licensing, Rogue Landlord and Empty Property Teams.

We operate a successful selective licensing regime and engage in a wide range of proactive housing and health interventions within a multi-disciplinary environment. The council is very much committed to joint working and taking a holistic approach to achieving better outcomes for our residents.

This exciting role will be attractive to anyone with experience of private sector housing who wants a challenging and varied role where initiative and robust interventions are very much encouraged.

Essential Requirements

  • You will have experience and extensive knowledge of legislation relating to private sector housing, in particular that relating to enforcement of housing conditions.
  • You will have experience of using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and the enforcement options available to you under the Housing Act 2004.
  • Applicants will ideally hold a degree or similar qualification in building surveying or environmental health, as well as a certificate of competency for HHSRS.
  • The post requires you to have a full driving licence and own transport or requires travelling to sites in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own car.
  • Due to the nature of the role, the post requires an Enhanced DBS check.
