You will be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in environmental health or a housing related subject and be a full member of a relevant professional body (i.e. CIEH or CIH). In addition, you will have an in-depth knowledge of relevant housing policy, legislation and practice, ideally supported by some experience of working in a senior officer position.

We have recently focused all our housing resources into one dynamic team and this role will see you overseeing a small team of officers focusing on housing standards, disabled facility grants and private sector procurement to support our homelessness obligations. You will respond to legislative changes by developing appropriate local strategies and policies as well as ensuring knowledge and practices are continually progressed delivering improvements to the service.

The Housing and Planning Act 2016 introduced the biggest suite of new powers available to us since the Housing Act 2004. We intend to use those powers to continue our twin track approach of working positively with those landlords who take their responsibilities seriously, whilst taking the strongest action against irresponsible and rogue landlords.

As a development opportunity this role is second to none as you will be working as part of a Housing Management Team alongside Team Leaders specialising in Homelessness & Housing Options, overseen by our Housing Services Manager. This is a role that is certain to provide you with a springboard to future housing leadership opportunities.
