About the role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Environmental Health Officer to join our new, forward thinking Shared Environmental Health Partnership at Mole Valley and Tandridge District Councils. The service encompasses the full spectrum of Environmental Health, delivering a resilient service across the districts that provides excellent customer service and is business focused.

We are looking for a high performing, enthusiastic and technically knowledgeable individual with excellent customer service and communication skills. This role is for a Senior Environmental Health professional to be part of the Residential and Environment team, working to deliver services in a transformational way to meet the challenges of the Council’s Corporate Plan and making the district a safe place to live, work and visit.

The role provides a broad range of challenges and opportunities including statutory nuisance, environmental permitting, planning consultations, air quality, housing standards and HHSRS Inspections, HMO licensing, and caravan site licensing. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a new, shared service, whilst further developing your own knowledge and skills.

The ideal candidate will have a wide range of post qualification experience in environmental protection and a good working knowledge of current legislation, together with problem solving and analytical skills to take a lead role in the delivery of the service.  You will manage your own caseload of environmental protection, planning consultation and private sector housing work, providing a responsive service, specialist technical advice and undertaking a structured inspection programme and lead on key projects.

Applicants must have a relevant degree or diploma in Environmental Health, be able to demonstrate current experience and knowledge of environmental protection, statutory nuisance investigation and noise control, housing standards and other legislation relevant to the post.

You will have excellent customer care skills, an adaptable approach and the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and businesses.

You will be working in a beautiful part of the country, amongst the Surrey Hills AONB, based in the market town of Dorking and part of a professional and friendly team. The benefits package includes flexible working, casual user car allowance, generous leave entitlement, further training and development, CIEH membership fees and free access to the Council’s leisure centre.
