About Hillingdon

Hillingdon Council: Putting our residents first

About the job

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) is deliberate or negligent activity which causes a nuisance to other people. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that carries out a wide range of investigation and enforcement duties in respect of anti-social behaviour and environmental cases, including nuisance, highway enforcement and environmental protection, providing a high quality customer focussed service to residents and elected members, resolving complaints and carrying out environmental enforcement.

The main purpose of the role is to undertake investigations and enforcement actions against perpetrators of environmental crime, including anti-social behaviour, statutory nuisance, waste management offences and highway infringements such as damage or obstruction. In addition to enforcement activities, the role will involve answering enquiries relating to contaminated land, environmental permitting, planning and construction and transportation noise. You will be expected to manage a high volume caseload, being responsible for overseeing cases from the beginning to their resolution.

The role requires a high degree of customer care and a diligent approach, combined with a strong sense of job ownership. Communication skills and a strong sense of team working are essential.

Successful candidates will be required to participate and contribute to the Council's Out Of Hours service, responding to reports of anti-social behaviour and statutory nuisance.

About the person

We’re looking for someone that is passionate about making a difference in the community. If this is you, you will also have excellent communication and problem solving skills, and will be expected to work in the community without direct line management supervision. You will be accountable for your own actions and will be expected to provide rapid problem resolution; this will be particularly important as part of our ASB and Environmental Protection service.

Additionally, the combination of your experience undertaking ASB and environmental investigations, and your understanding of relevant legislation and current guidance, coupled with your problem solving skills will be invaluable in successfully completing the duties required in this post. The ability to devise plans which ensure timely resolutions and financial value will put you in good stead to achieve great success in this role. You will be expected to provide legislative and technical advice and deal efficiently and effectively with complex casework of a technical nature across the range of environmental protection and anti-social behaviour investigation, enforcement and regulation activities.
