Grade 9 scp 29-31, £24,550 per annum

37 hours per week, Permanent

An opportunity has arisen for a Public Protection Officer (Specialist Technical) in Regulatory Services based in Shrewsbury. This key service area delivers Environmental Health, Pest Control and Ecology functions.

The role is based in the Environmental Protection Team and will be working alongside other technical and professional level officers delivering environmental protection regulatory functions focussed on industrial and commercial premises. The activities carried out will consist of reactive work dealing with service requests from customers concerning complaints about matters such as noise, dust, odour, and air pollution. It will also involve proactive inspections of businesses to audit their environmental and safety performance specifically concentrating on Petroleum Storage Certification and Environmental Permits under the Pollution Prevention and Control Environmental Permitting regime.

The work will involve support of businesses through advice and guidance but also where appropriate using formal regulatory approaches such as the service of legal notices and prosecution if legislatory requirements have been breached. The exact mix of work to be undertaken will depend on the skills, abilities and experience of the successful applicant.
