The London boroughs of Kingston and Sutton have come together to create an ambitious and forward-looking shared environment service, covering Regulatory Services and Highways & Transport functions.

With a focus on delivering high quality frontline services, this innovative partnership plays its role in creating sustainable communities, with a high quality environment that can be enjoyed by all.

Set in a challenging public service environment, we have an opportunity in the Regulatory Services function and are looking for a passionate, committed and enthusiastic professional to join us as we continue to develop and shape the service.

About the role

As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a range of statutory environmental functions across both boroughs. The work of the team is varied and includes air quality, environmental permitting, land contamination, acoustics and other related and specialist areas of work.

As a member of a small, committed and hard-working team, you will be involved in both proactive and reactive work across many of the specialist disciplines that lie within the team’s remit. Opportunity to experience the wider work of the service may be available to the right candidate.

We are able to offer a series of unique, fulfilling and exciting challenges in a dynamic working environment where quick thinking, innovation and creativity is needed just as much as the energy and desire to get things done.

About you

The Shared Environment Service is a professional service requiring technical knowledge and expertise. Whether you are an experienced Environmental Health professional, a newly qualified or graduate in Environmental Health or a related subject, or someone working towards that goal with a passion in Environmental Health and Regulatory Enforcement, we would like to hear from you.

You will be organised, diligent and flexible, with good communication skills and able to work on your own initiative. You will have an eye for detail and be comfortable working under pressure. The Shared Service works across two boroughs and you will be expected to work in either Borough offices as required, however the post can be based in the offices in Kingston town centre or in the Sutton offices at Carshalton.

As part of our team, you will benefit from a commitment to your professional and personal development, a generous leave entitlement, the opportunity to work flexibly, attractive working spaces, and up-to-date messaging and video technology that fosters networking and collaboration. You will have the opportunity to work on a multitude of cases and projects, so your learning and experience is maximised.

About the Councils

The Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Sutton are key partners and have adopted an approach based on strategic collaboration. This has already resulted in a number of shared services including ICT, HR and this Environment Service with further opportunities being explored.
