Environmental Health Officer

Salary £32,486 - £36,379

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is situated between the Mersey and Ribble estuaries and has a coastline of 22 miles.  It is the most northerly of the five Metropolitan Districts in Merseyside and possibly the most diverse in character.  To the north is the classic Victorian holiday resort and shopping centre of Southport and to the south are Bootle, Litherland, Netherton and Seaforth which experience many of the problems associated with older inner city areas.  Between lie the pleasant suburban areas of Crosby, Maghull, Aintree, Lydiate and Formby, high quality agricultural land and a dune coastline of outstanding scientific and recreational importance. The Borough is the host to several high profile events each year including the Randox Grand national Race Meeting, Southport Flower Show and several Golf Championships.

A vacancy exists in our Pollution Control team and the successful candidate will deal with the full range of commercial pollution issues. Duties will include investigating statutory nuisance complaints, providing expert advice and guidance on planning applications, licensing applications and the enforcement of the LAPPC regime.  You will also have the opportunity to be involved in the air quality work of the team.

The ability to communicate at all levels, generate legal reports/letters and collate evidence where necessary is essential.  You must be able to work to a high level of accuracy, prioritising a wide diversity of duties. You must hold a degree or diploma in Environmental Health and be registered with EHORB.

If you’d like to find out more information about the opportunity you can call Greg Martin on 0151 934 2098.  The closing date for application is 2nd January 2018.
