Senior Housing Licensing Officer

Environmental Services

Band 8: £32,486 - £36,379

Fixed Term Contract until 31st December 2018

Post No: 001017

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is committed to improving the quality of the private rented housing sector, enhancing the environment and developing safer, stronger communities. As part of our ambitions, we are currently investigating the potential for the implementation of a Selective Licensing Scheme for private rented properties in parts of the Borough.

To help us achieve this, we are looking for an experienced housing professional who shares our ambitions and has the knowledge, capability and drive to successfully devise this scheme. While initially on a fixed-term contract, in the event that the scheme is implemented, this role will develop into a full-time post managerial for the right candidate.

In consultation with key stakeholders including landlords associations, health providers, the police and internal departments within the Council, you will develop a licensing scheme to tackle poor housing conditions and anti-social behaviour. You will see the project through from the process of data-gathering, scheme development and statutory consultation before seeking final agreement with Council members on the feasibility of the scheme.

This role is therefore suitable for candidates with excellent analytical, literacy, political and negotiating skills.

If you feel that you have the abilities to effect real change in the lives of our residents and wish to join a progressive local authority, we would welcome your application.

We offer a friendly working environment with attractive terms and conditions including generous holiday entitlement, flexible working and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

If you would like more information on this role, please contact Jason Williams, Community Protection Manager on 01493 846635 or Kate Watts, Strategic Director on 01493 846547.

Please note CVs are not accepted.

Closing date: 8th December 2017.

Interviews to be held on 14th December 2017.

The Council operates an equal opportunities policy and we welcome applications from all parts of the community.
